This section includes herbal references, herbal associations, seed resources, and herbal supply companies.

  1. American Herbalist Guild A perfect place to start with a wealth of information about herbal education, informative webinars on all aspects of herbalism, and an extensive mentorship program. Their Registered Herbalist program is the only regulatory system in the U.S. for herbalists where herbalism is not a legally licensed profession.

  2. United Plant Savers If you have interest in the conservation of medicinal plants in the U.S. and Canada, these are your people. They are the experts that supply herbalists with information about the herbs most at risk of extinction and why we should only use cultivated sources for those herbs.

  3. American Botanical Council An excellent site with several databases filled with herbal information, both science based and traditional. My go to for German Commission E monographs, quarterly HerbalGram magazine, and many other resources. It doesn’t hurt that they are based in Austin, as am I.

    • Sustainable Herbs Program The conservation effort of the American Botanical Council whose aim is to ensure sustainable practices throughout the supply chain, from farmers and wildcrafters to consumers, of herbal products that benefit the planet and those of us that live on it.

  4. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health A government sponsored site that provides information about complementary medicine, including herbs, for a science based point of view.

  5. World Health Organization (WHO) Herbal Monographs A four volume collection of plant monographs from the World Health Organization. Very thorough and mostly science based.

  6. American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP) Providers of some of the most thorough, up to date herbal monographs (for purchase only).

  7. A Modern Herbal by Mrs. M. Grieve This electronic version of “A Modern Herbal” by Maud Grieve, first published in 1931, provides quite a bit of traditional herbal information.

  8. Henriette’s Herbal Homepage One of the oldest and largest herbal information sites by Henriette Kress, who is always adding more classical herbal publications. Another excellent reference for traditional herbal information.

  9. Southwest School of Botanical Medicine A collection of historical herbal references curated by Michael Moore, the most influential herbalist in the history of the United States.

  10. Medical Herbalism A site provided by the publishers of Medical Herbalism quarterly journal, the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism, to supply information and resources about clinical herbalism.

  11. Strictly Medicinal Seeds Seed company owned by herbalist Richo Cech. My first choice for buying herb seeds.

  12. Seed Savers Exchange A resource of heirloom seeds you can buy or exchange with 20,000 plant varieties.

  13. Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds “America’s top resource of pure heirloom seeds” I have to admit I fell in love with their catalog and all the garden possibilities it provides.

  14. Mountain Rose Herbs My first choice for organic bulk herbs, oils, butters, ect. when I can not find ingredients locally.

  15. Frontier Co-op Organic herbal co-op with over 40,000 members owned by the same people that bring you Aura Cacia essential oils and Simply Organic products.
